THE POWER OF CARE: TOLD BY 4 NCAA® MARCH MADNESS® LEGENDS
We believe that when men care, it benefits everyone in society. And when everyone cares, it unites us, uplifts us and makes us stronger – the same goes for basketball players, too. Read what NCAA® March Madness® legends David Robinson, Shane Battier and Seth Davis wrote about the fans and their power to care.
Dear fans,
Caring for something bigger than ourselves is what makes the game great. We know how much you care because we can see it. We can hear it. Most of all, we can feel it.
When we’re tired, we ride your energy. When we make a great play, your passion lifts us higher. When we lose, your loyalty inspires us to try again.
We always feel how much you care. We see you sitting in the stands with your kids, and it makes us play harder. Your family took you to games, just like ours did.
We may have grown up to become pros, but we never stopped being fans. That never goes away. It’s why we care, too.
What else did these NCAA® March Madness® luminaries say about the fans?
David Robinson, retired NBA player and Olympic gold medalist
“As a player, you absolutely feed off the fans’ energy. They’re a big part of the game. To me, that’s what’s great about sports – it brings people of all backgrounds together. You learn to appreciate people for what they can do, and not for what they can’t do.”
Shane Battier, retired NBA and national player
“I’ll never forget what it felt like to walk onto the court when I was in college. Two hours before tipoff, the fans were already there. In my four years at school, every game at home was like that. It didn’t matter if it was an exhibition game or a big conference matchup – there was always a rocking energy. That’s what college basketball is all about.”
Seth Davis, sportswriter and broadcaster
“Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand the significant impact of fans on college basketball – their energy, passion, support and care are what make the sport so special.
“Through this partnership with Dove Men+Care, I drew upon inspiring stories from some of basketball’s greatest legends – to honor and reflect on what their experiences with fans has meant to them. What resulted celebrates the positive impact fan culture can have on men during the tournament and beyond.”
