    Sun exposure

The sun is one of the leading causes of uneven skin tone. When your skin is exposed to UV rays without protection, it produces excess melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color) as a defense mechanism. Over time, this can lead to sun spots, freckles, and areas of hyperpigmentation, especially on parts of the body that get the most exposure – like the face, chest, and shoulders.

    Hormonal changes

Hormonal fluctuations – such as those during pregnancy, menstruation, or menopause – can trigger a condition called melasma, which causes dark patches to appear, usually on the face. These changes in hormone levels can increase melanin production, leading to persistent discoloration that may be challenging to treat without targeted skincare.

    Aging

As we age, our skin’s natural cell turnover slows down. This can lead to the buildup of dead skin cells on the surface, giving the skin a dull or uneven appearance. Additionally, years of sun exposure can start to show up as age spots or liver spots, adding to the uneven tone.

    Inflammation and skin damage

Any form of skin trauma – such as acne, cuts, burns, or even aggressive exfoliation – can trigger post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). This occurs when the skin responds to injury or irritation by producing more melanin, leaving behind dark marks or patches even after the original issue has healed.

    Start with clean, dry skin

Always apply Dove Cream Serums to freshly cleansed skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and impurities, so the serum can penetrate effectively.

    Apply a thin, even layer

Take a small amount of Niacinamide + Even Tone Cream Serum and massage it into areas where you want to improve tone and texture – like your face, neck, chest, or anywhere you notice unevenness. The lightweight formula absorbs quickly, delivering moisture and skin-renewing ingredients deep into the skin.

    Focus on consistency

Use the serum daily – morning and/or night – for best results. Over time, consistent use can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, smooth rough patches, and enhance your skin’s overall radiance.

Follow with SPF in the morning

If you’re applying our Niacinamide + Even Tone Cream Serum serum in the morning, always follow with sunscreen. Sun exposure is one of the main causes of uneven skin tone, and protecting your skin helps maintain your progress.

    Pair with gentle exfoliation

To boost results, exfoliate 1–2 times a week to remove dead skin cells and help the serum absorb more effectively. Just be sure not to overdo it – gentle exfoliation is key.
