Rain grew up on a farm in rural Vermont, where she hit 6ft 2in by the age of 10. Being that size at that age, she was always called mannish, plain and ugly. Even as a teenager when she volunteered as a fire fighter, many of her co-workers assumed she was a man.
"They said…I was too manly and ugly. I said…This is what a pretty girl looks like"
As she grew older, she eventually found her way to an open casting for runway models, only to be told to come back the next day with the other men. She was successful in the audition, and didn’t reveal her gender until after the show. It was at that moment when she realized her calling. She would take the opportunity to challenge the industry’s perceptions of what it means to be a woman.
Today, Rain works as a successful model in New York, representing a multitude of brands that don’t ask her to pick a side, male or female.
