Why was it so important to make this movie about dads?
We partnered with Imagine Documentaries to produce DADS as part of our commitment to support fathers everywhere and to normalize them as caregivers and communicators.
We don’t just want to challenge gendered perceptions about men’s role in the family – we want to inspire men of this generation (and the next) to care for themselves and others.
That’s why a percentage of profits from our documentary on dads will support our Paternity Leave Fund and help empower all fathers to care for the people they love.

The story we’re telling
From those first bonding moments, to parenting advice from real fathers – DADS is a powerful snapshot into how the role of a father has changed over time. Told through the eyes of a few well-known comedians and extraordinary everyday dads around the world, the film includes moving interviews from the likes of Judd Apatow, Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris, Ron Howard, Reed Howard, Ken Jeong, Jimmy Kimmel, Hasan Minhaj, Conan O’Brien, Patton Oswalt, Will Smith, and Kenan Thompson.
DADS will be Bryce Dallas Howard’s documentary directing debut – with the feature being unveiled at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Through our research, we’ve found that fathers around the world aren’t taking their full paternity leave, even in countries where they have access to paid leave – the documentary, DADS, champions a new narrative around fatherhood. We hope that by sharing these remarkable stories of fathers from all walks of life, we can help to spread awareness for the importance of paternity leave and the impact that engaged dads can have on their families and society.
What it means to be a dad can be complex
‘Dad’ is a role as old as time itself. But times have changed – and so have society’s perceptions of what it means to be a dad (and a man).
DADS explores the complexities of what being a dad means, from starring in the role of caregiver, to moonlighting as a positive role model and mentor. However dads play their role, one thing is clear: every dad is one of a kind.
And that care and complexity is exactly what we wanted to capture in this fatherhood documentary.
