Growing up in South Africa, Luyanda struggled to fit in, going to great lengths to change her hair to match society's perceived ideal beauty. One day, however, she realized she didn't need to conform to a standard beauty mould. Since then, she has embraced her unique beauty.
Although Luyanda’s confidence now beams for all to see, this wasn't always present. For years, being surrounded by friends with lighter skin and straighter hair pressured Luyanda to emulate a beauty ideal that didn't reflect her true self.
However, once she recognized her own beautiful features, she made a promise to stay true to herself. That day, she got dreadlocks and has faced the world with unstoppable self-confidence, celebrating her natural hair and true self ever since.
