6 tips for healthy, soft baby skin
Caring for delicate baby skin isn’t easy for any new parent. If you’re experiencing information overload and feeling unsure of where to start, you’re not alone.
With more than 60 years of skin care expertise, Dove is here to help you learn more about your baby’s delicate skin and how to care for it. Firstly, you may not know that it’s 30% thinner than yours and loses moisture faster. That’s why we recommend gentle products that go beyond mild cleansing to replenish essential nutrients.
Here are some suggestions to help you find a skin care routine that works for you and your baby.
Going pH neutral.
"A baby’s skin pH is more neutral than an adult’s,” explains pediatric dermatologist Dr Zilda. “It requires products with a pH closer to that found naturally in their skin.” A pH-neutral product such as Baby Dove’s Rich Moisture Baby Bar is great for cleansing babies with dry skin. In addition to being dermatologically tested, it is gentler and more nourishing than ordinary baby soap
Gently cleansing at bathtime.
Bathtime can be a challenge. But the good news is it’s fine to skip one occasionally, as frequent baths can dry out baby skin. It’s also OK to use a mild cleanser like our Rich Moisture Tip to Toe Wash, which gently removes dirt while helping to maintain moisture
Try products for babies.
Instead of using your own moisturizer, try using products specifically designed for moisturizing baby skin. Our products help maintain moisture, leaving baby skin soft and hydrated
Not forgetting the scalp.
Your baby might not have much hair, but try washing the scalp with a shampoo that goes beyond mildness, such as our Rich Moisture Baby Shampoo. It replenishes essential moisture and nutrients in the scalp from the first wash
Once you’ve patted your baby dry, now is a good time to replenish lost moisture. A specifically created moisturizing cream for baby, like our Rich Moisture Baby Lotion, will keep delicate skin soft and moisturized until the next bath
Protecting baby’s bottom.
Babies can spend a long time in a dirty nappy at night, so it’s a good idea to protect their little bottoms while they sleep. Before bedtime, try applying a layer of rash cream to shield your baby’s skin from the wetness that can cause irritation
