Boosting self-esteem with the Women’s Dermatologic Society
Our skin can have a real effect on our confidence – especially for young people with skin conditions.
We believe no young person should be held back from reaching their full potential – that’s why we’ve partnered with the Women’s Dermatologic Society to help boost self-esteem around the world. Through our partnership, we aim to encourage skin positivity and help young people to see that beauty goes beyond skin-deep – here’s how.
Encouraging positivity: Our skin care tool kit and Confidence Talks.
We’ve created a toolkit for doctors to use with patients who have skin and body image concerns. It’s a useful insight into how young people might be feeling – you can download the resource at the bottom of the page, or by heading to the Women’s Dermatologic Society’s site.🔗
Alongside experts from the Centre for Appearance Research at the University of the West of England, we’ve also created our Confidence Talks. Dealing with both the practical side of skin care and the emotion associated to body confidence – our videos below are a helpful go-to for young people with skin conditions, encouraging skin positivity.
These videos provide a supportive, friendly teen-focused approach to managing the physical and emotional aspects of skin care – so that no one should ever feel alone.

What the specialists think
“As dermatologists, we see how skin conditions negatively affect self-esteem every day. We are always looking for ways to broach the conversation which can usher treatment into a place where both the skin and soul can heal,” Dr Mona Gohara, New Haven says. “Confidence Talks makes this task easy – it’s changed the way I relate to my patients who struggle with low self-esteem.”
Dr. Jeannette Jakus, a pediatric dermatologist in Brooklyn, New York, agrees. “Watching the Confidence Talks videos has given me insight into the day-to-day struggles teens with acne face that allows me to better understand and connect with my young patients. These videos provide a supportive, friendly teen-focused approach to managing the physical and emotional aspects of skin care, so that no one should ever feel alone.”
