The Dove Self-Esteem Project: Our Mission in Action
From playing sports and swimming to going to school and spending time with friends, anxiety about their looks can keep girls from living life to the full.
And seven out of ten report putting their health at risk by not eating or not going to visit the doctor when they don’t feel good about the way they look.
The Dove Self-Esteem Project
At Dove, we have a vision of a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. Our mission is to ensure the next generation grows up enjoying a positive relationship with the way they look – helping young people to raise their self-esteem and realize their full potential.
In 2004, we turned this vision and mission into the Dove Self-Esteem Project, where we work with leading experts in the area of body image to develop evidence based tools. So far, we’ve reached over 60 million young people across 142 countries with self-esteem education. And we want to reach 32,000 young people in New Zealand by the end of 2020, and ¼ billion young people globally by 2030. Our resources include tools for parents, mentors, teachers, and youth leaders and are free to download and proven to build positive body confidence.
