For many first-time parents, bathing a newborn can feel daunting. In many cases, the birthing partner takes on the responsibility of the first bath while the mother recovers from delivery. The comforting thing to remember is that there are no strict rules—each culture has its own traditions, and every parent learns to enjoy the process in their own way. The key is to continue the "Vernix Effect" by keeping the baby’s thin and delicate skin well-moisturised. Since baby skin loses moisture quickly, I often advise parents to use tear-free, moisture-retaining baby washes, such as Baby Dove products.

Bathing Tips:
- Prepare everything in advance to prevent the baby from getting cold.
- Ensure the water temperature is between 37–38°C—test it with your elbow.
- Keep the first few baths brief and create a calm environment.
- Always keep one hand on the baby for safety.
- Avoid using soap on the baby’s face for the first six weeks. For the body, use mild baby washes with a neutral pH and minimal additives like Baby Dove Sensitive Fragrance-Free Body Wash
- Keep the baby warm after bath time by wrapping them snugly in a towel.

The Benefits of Bathing
Bathing provides multiple benefits, such as:
- Relaxing or stimulating the baby, depending on the routine.
- Keeping the baby clean and reducing the risk of infections.
- Stimulating circulation and promoting healthy skin.
- Encouraging parent-baby bonding—a favourite part of bath time for many parents!
