Know the signs of a dry scalp.

The signs of a dry scalp aren’t too mysterious – generally you’ll be experiencing an uncomfortable dryness and tightness on your scalp, and you might notice some visible skin flaking, too

But don’t confuse it with dandruff.

Dandruff is usually caused by a tiny yeast-like microorganism that grows on oily areas of the scalp. When the scalp’s natural protection becomes weak and unhealthy, the microorganism can produce irritants which cause the skin cells to shed faster than usual, leaving white flakes. A dry scalp is down to the scalp losing too much of its natural moisture. This can be due to things like cold weather, a build-up of hair products or even dehydration. It doesn’t always lead to dandruff, but it can cause flakes, too (though they’re much smaller and fall away more easily)

Decrease how often you wash hair.

Washing your hair a little less is one of the simplest dry scalp remedies: cleansing hair too often can remove some naturally moisturising oils. Washing your hair two to three times a week helps to keep your hair feeling fresh and your scalp feeling healthy

    Change your shampoo.

If you’re prone to scalp conditions like dryness, you need a gentle shampoo that won’t strip your hair or your scalp of moisture. Dove Daily Moisture Shampoo gently cleanses your hair while leaving it beautifully soft and smooth, and won’t be harsh on skin

    Turn down the heat.

Overusing heat can sometimes result in scalp dryness – straighteners, curling tongs and hairdryers can cause heat damage and dry out your scalp. Try cutting down and see if it makes a difference

    Hydration, hydration, hydration.

For healthy skin, keeping your body hydrated is essential. Make sure you’re drinking enough water (between 8 and 10 glasses), so your body can replenish any lost moisture in your skin
