Paternity Leave Around the World

Men’s power to care: Paternity leave around the world

Partnering with Promundo, leaders in modern fatherhood research, we’ve spoken to dads across seven countries to explore the global state of paternity leave. Part of our ongoing campaign to support new dads, our research shines a light on Promundo’s State of the World’s Fathers report – a biennial study examining global issues surrounding global fatherhood and gender equality.

Paternity leave today

Through our report, we found that less than half of countries offer any form of legally protected, paid paternity leave. For the other nations, the responsibility lies with employers – many of whom may not be able to offer financial support for new fathers. Our research shows that over 40% of parents agree: financial barriers stop them from taking paternity leave – and that’s something we want to help change.

Change is now

Our findings revealed a lot about the widespread benefits of paternity leave – and also the struggles that some dads are facing. That’s why we’re on a mission to spread awareness for paid family leave. If you want to get involved, you can sign our Paternity Leave Pledge – the first step in making paid leave for dads the norm.
