Dove Black hair care

How to care for natural Black hair

When natural hair is nourished there’s nothing like the beautiful, defined curls it produces, whether they’re kinks, loose spirals or tight coils – which is why so many are putting down relaxers and weaves and joining the natural hair revolution. True, keeping natural Black hair looking its gorgeous best calls for specific, caring treatment and with Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute system – the most nourishing range from Dove ever - embracing your curls is made easy. Perfect for natural hair care, it’s infused with nutrients, protein and Buriti Oil (rich in nourishing omega 9) to deeply nourish, strengthen, moisturise and smooth the hair, leaving those curls 4x more defined. With the right products, and our tips, you’ll have caring for your hair down to a fine art.

    Stay moisturised.

Textured, curly hair craves moisture: it’s naturally prone to dryness, so take care to always keep it moisturised and avoid things that can dry it out any more. Over-washing can be one of those things, but with a gentle, caring product like Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute Shampoo, which nourishes while cleansing, you can wash your hair as often as you need without worrying about drying it out

    Conditioner is essential.

Since natural curly hair easily tangles and is more prone to damage, slathering it in conditioner after every wash is essential. It keeps hair strong and moisturised and helps defining curls

    Apply intensive treatments.

To deeply nourish your natural curls, apply intensive treatments frequently, not just as a treat (don’t we deserve a treat frequently anyway?). The rich, creamy formula of Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute Intense Restoration Mask (applied post-conditioner) gives deep nourishment and helps keep curls defined and beautiful without weighing them down

    Dry hair gently.

Hair is more fragile when it’s wet, so make the drying process as gentle as possible to avoid breakage and frizz. Gently squeeze water out with your towel instead of rubbing to prevent unnecessary friction (frizz’s partner-in-crime). Oh and remember to use a wide tooth comb to ease out tangles

    Use leave-in conditioner.

Make sure you have a good leave-in treatment in your arsenal: it’ll help you moisturise your hair even between washes. Dove Advanced Hair Series Quench Absolute Crème Serum is a great leave-in conditioner for natural hair: it’s fast-absorbing and lightweight, but  it deeply nourishes for ultimate shine and manageability (plus it’s great for taming frizz and keeping curls defined day to day)

Wrap hair in a silk scarf.

Avoid waking up with dreaded frizz, by applying a leave-in product and then wrapping your hair in a silk scarf for bed – the smooth fabric means less friction for your hair, making tossing and turning-induced breakage less likely (plus it’ll help preserve your style so you don’t need to re-do it)
